Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?

Synopsis

In a post-apocalyptic 2021, Earth has been ravaged by World War Terminus, leaving much of the planet radioactive and nearly devoid of animal life. Humanity has largely migrated off-world, leaving behind those who couldn't, or wouldn't, abandon Earth. For those who remain, owning a live animal is a status symbol and a source of empathy, a precious commodity in a desolate world. For others, incredibly realistic synthetic animals fill the void. However, the most sophisticated simulacra are androids, bio-engineered humans who are nearly indistinguishable from real people. These advanced androids, used as servants on off-world colonies, are forbidden on Earth. Rick Deckard is a bounty hunter tasked with 'retiring' these rogue androids who have illegally returned to Earth. As he hunts down a particularly cunning group of new-model androids, Rick grapples with the blurring lines between human and machine, questioning his own empathy, the nature of life, and what it truly means to be human. The novel provocatively explores themes of identity, artificial intelligence, and the essence of consciousness amidst a world struggling for survival and meaning.
