Synopsis

Set in a luxurious Parisian apartment building, "The Elegance of the Hedgehog" masterfully intertwines the lives of two extraordinary, yet seemingly ordinary, residents. Renée Michel, the building's concierge, meticulously maintains a facade of an uncultured, dowdy woman, fulfilling the snobbish expectations of her wealthy tenants. In reality, Renée is a self-taught intellectual, deeply versed in philosophy, literature, and Japanese art, whose only true companion is her cat, Leo Tolstoy. Upstairs, twelve-year-old Paloma Josse, the precocious and brilliant daughter of affluent, indifferent parents, views the world with profound disillusionment. Convinced of life's inherent meaninglessness, she secretly plans to end her life on her thirteenth birthday. Their carefully constructed worlds begin to unravel and intersect with the arrival of Kakuro Ozu, a sophisticated Japanese gentleman who possesses a unique ability to see beyond superficial appearances. His presence acts as a catalyst, subtly challenging Renée and Paloma to reveal their true selves and ultimately altering the trajectory of their lives in unexpected and poignant ways.
