Synopsis

Harry Hole, the disgraced but brilliant detective, is reluctantly drawn back into the Oslo police force when a new, terrifying serial killer emerges. The victims, all women found after internet dates, bear gruesome marks that signal a particularly vicious and disturbed perpetrator. Under immense media and public pressure, the police know only Hole possesses the dark insight required to hunt such a monster. Despite his desire to remain retired and protect his family from the shadows of his past, Harry cannot ignore the unsettling parallels between the current murders and a cold case—his one professional failure. As the body count rises and the killer's methods escalate, Harry is forced to confront his personal demons and put everything on the line to finally catch the elusive killer who threatens to plunge Oslo into a terrifying new era of fear.
