Synopsis

In Kathy Reichs' gripping thriller "Fire and Bones," forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan is plunged into a chilling arson investigation in Washington, D.C., a city she approaches with customary apprehension. The deadly blaze at a building in Foggy Bottom quickly escalates beyond a simple fire scene as Tempe uncovers a suspicious ownership history, revealing ties to the notorious 'Foggy Bottom Gang' of the 1930s and 40s. Teaming up with telejournalist Ivy Doyle, Tempe's initial academic curiosity turns into a race against time when a son of a former gang member is murdered. What appears at first to be a mere coincidence soon morphs into a meticulously orchestrated series of attacks. As more properties linked to the old gang are torched and additional victims claim, Tempe realizes she might be walking into a trap; her every move seems anticipated, and each step forward is met with increasing peril, suggesting a deeply entrenched conspiracy rooted in the district's murky past.
