Synopsis

At just fourteen years old, Mattie Ross, a remarkably resolute and strong-willed girl, embarks on a relentless pursuit of justice following the brutal murder and robbery of her father by the villainous Tom Chaney in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Fueled by an unshakeable determination to avenge her father's death, Mattie tenaciousy seeks out and enlists the aid of Marshal Rooster Cogburn, a notorious, one-eyed, and hard-drinking lawman famed for his ferocity. Despite Cogburn's initial reluctance and Mattie's youth, her shrewdness and persistence win him over, and they set off into the perilous Indian Territory. Their mission: to track down Chaney and bring him to justice. Joined by a Texas Ranger named LaBoeuf, who also has a bounty on Chaney, the unlikely trio navigates a treacherous landscape, facing moral complexities and the harsh realities of the untamed American West. Portis masterfully weaves a tale of courage, vengeance, and unexpected bonds, delivered with a unique narrative voice that is both darkly humorous and deeply resonant, chronicling Mattie's extraordinary coming-of-age amid danger and self-discovery.
