Synopsis

As the Holy War hurtles toward its cataclysmic climax, Anasurimbor Kellhus, now the enigmatic Warrior-Prophet, consolidates his dominion over the Men of the Tusk, having vanquished all who dared oppose him. Their path leads to the fabled city of Shimeh, but the very fabric of existence threatens to unravel. The conflicted sorcerer Achamian, bound by a desperate hope to prevent the prophesied Second Apocalypse, continues his reluctant service as Kellhus's tutor, caught in a profound moral quagmire. Meanwhile, the tormented Scylvendi barbarian Cnaiur succumbs entirely to his inner demons, his tragic descent a stark counterpoint to Kellhus's ruthless ascent. Sensing the endgame, the ancient and malevolent Consult intensifies their horrifying machinations, striving to usher in the dreaded No-God. Amidst burgeoning chaos, marked by faceless assassins and unleashed sorcery, Kellhus must finally confront his enigmatic father, Moënghus, and unravel the terrifying, reality-altering implications of the Thousandfold Thought – a revelation that promises to redefine not just the war, but the very nature of perception and existence itself.

Critical Reception

"Hailed as a brutally intelligent and philosophically dense conclusion to a groundbreaking epic, 'The Thousandfold Thought' solidifies R. Scott Bakker's legacy in dark fantasy."
