Synopsis

In a chillingly reimagined 1964, Robert Harris's "Fatherland" plunges readers into a world where Nazi Germany emerged victorious from World War II. As the Reich prepares to celebrate Führer Adolf Hitler's 75th birthday and host a historic détente meeting with U.S. President Joseph P. Kennedy, the veneer of triumph begins to crack. Xavier March, a disillusioned detective of the Kriminalpolizei, is called to investigate the discovery of a high-ranking party official's body. What initially appears to be an isolated incident rapidly unravels into a far-reaching conspiracy involving a cabal of powerful Nazi leaders determined to protect the regime's darkest secrets. Aided by an intrepid American journalist, Charlie Maguire, March finds himself on a perilous quest to uncover the truth about Germany's wartime atrocities – the horrific "Final Solution" – a truth that the state has meticulously buried and will go to any lengths to suppress. "Fatherland" is a masterclass in suspense, weaving a gripping detective story with a profoundly disturbing alternate history, forcing readers to confront the terrifying consequences of unchecked power and historical revisionism.
