Synopsis

In David Baldacci's thrilling novel "Long Shadows," the uniquely gifted FBI consultant Amos Decker, known for his perfect recall, is thrust into a complex double homicide investigation in South Florida. The victims are a federal judge and her bodyguard, found dead with a disturbing detail: the judge's face is adorned with a blindfold, crudely cut with eye holes, hinting at a deeply personal motive. What initially appears to be a straightforward case, given the judge's extensive list of enemies ranging from violent criminals to a disgruntled ex-husband, quickly spirals into a labyrinth of secrets. The bodyguard's past introduces further complications, muddying the waters and questioning who the true target was. As Decker grapples with these professional challenges, he also faces significant personal upheaval, including a new partner, Special Agent Frederica “Freddie” White, and a devastating event that reopens old wounds from his own tragic past. With potential witnesses vanishing, Decker and White are drawn into a perilous journey through a web of crime and scandal, leading them towards Decker's most formidable adversary yet.
