Synopsis

Set against the tumultuous backdrop of 1970s Afghanistan and its subsequent upheaval, "The Kite Runner" tells the poignant story of Amir, a wealthy Pashtun boy, and Hassan, his loyal Hazara servant and childhood friend. Their bond is unbreakable until a devastating act of betrayal during a kite-fighting tournament shatters their lives and leaves Amir consumed by guilt and cowardice. As the Soviet invasion forces Amir and his father to flee to America, he carries the heavy burden of his past. Decades later, a phone call from a dying family friend calls Amir back to a Taliban-controlled Afghanistan, presenting him with a dangerous, yet redemptive, opportunity to confront his demons, make amends for his past transgressions, and rescue a lost piece of his history. It's a powerful narrative about friendship, betrayal, the enduring search for atonement, and the complex ties that bind individuals to their homeland.
