Synopsis

Thomas Jerome Newton, an extraterrestrial from the dying planet Anthea, crash-lands on Earth with a desperate mission: to save his species from extinction by building a spaceship to transport the last 300 Antheans to a new home. Disguised as a human, Newton leverages advanced alien technology to amass a vast fortune, establishing a powerful corporation. His brilliance and otherworldly inventions draw the attention of Nathan Bryce, a curious chemistry professor, who quickly suspects Newton's true identity. As Newton races against time to complete his grand project, he becomes increasingly entangled in human vices and vulnerabilities, his alien clarity diminishing under the weight of Earth's intoxicating materialism and loneliness. The relentless pursuit by Bryce and the looming threat of the FBI push Newton to the brink, forcing him to confront the profound tragedy of his mission and the inherent flaws of humanity, and perhaps, himself. Tevis crafts a poignant and profound commentary on alienation, ambition, and the human condition.
