Synopsis

In the desolate beauty of Absaroka County, Wyoming, Sheriff Walt Longmire finds his stoic peace shattered by the mysterious death of Mari Baroja, a resident of the Durant Home for Assisted Living. What initially appears to be a natural passing quickly unravels into a complex murder investigation when cyanide is discovered in her system. Longmire is drawn into a labyrinthine case that spans fifty years, intricately linking the present with a past steeped in secrets. Mari's connections to the close-knit and often insular Basque community, the burgeoning yet controversial coal-bed methane industry, and the deeply personal life of his predecessor, Lucian Connally, lead Walt down a perilous path. Aided by his steadfast friend Henry Standing Bear, the sharp-witted Deputy Victoria Moretti, and the enigmatic newcomer Santiago Saizarbitoria, Walt must navigate a treacherous landscape of half-truths, assumed loyalties, and buried grievances. As he peels back the layers of Mari's enigmatic life, Walt uncovers a tragic narrative of love, betrayal, and a killer determined to keep the past silent, forcing him to confront the specter of history to deliver justice in a land where the past never truly dies.
