Synopsis

In John Sandford's gripping 'Certain Prey', the sophisticated and ruthless attorney Carmel Loan becomes dangerously infatuated with her married colleague, Hale Allen. Driven by an unyielding desire, she orchestrates the removal of his wife by hiring Clara Rinker, a highly professional and equally attractive hitwoman. What begins as a calculated crime of passion spirals into a complex web of deceit when an unexpected witness—a police officer—is killed during the hit. This shocking turn of events brings the tenacious and brilliant DI Lucas Davenport into the investigation, setting him on a collision course with both Loan and Rinker. The two women, united by their shared culpability and a chilling lack of remorse, must now pool their formidable intellects and resources to evade Davenport. As the body count rises and the stakes intensify, Davenport finds himself in a high-stakes cat-and-mouse game against two exceptionally cunning adversaries, each as dangerous as they are intelligent, pushing the boundaries of morality and justice in a thrilling pursuit.
