Synopsis

Set against the backdrop of 1920s Paris and the vibrant bullfighting festivals of Pamplona, Ernest Hemingway's "The Sun Also Rises" captures the spirit and disillusionment of the "Lost Generation" post-World War I. The story centers on Jake Barnes, an American journalist rendered impotent by a war injury, and his complicated, unrequited love for the enigmatic and promiscuous Lady Brett Ashley. Surrounded by a circle of hedonistic and emotionally damaged expatriates, including the wealthy Robert Cohn and the boisterous Mike Campbell, their lives unfold in a cycle of heavy drinking, aimless travel, and strained relationships. As they journey from the intellectual cafés of the Left Bank to the visceral spectacle of Spanish bullfights, Hemingway masterfully explores themes of moral bankruptcy, spiritual dissolution, masculinity in crisis, and the search for meaning in a world devoid of traditional values. It is a poignant examination of love, friendship, and the enduring scars of a generation adrift.
