The Rithmatist

In a world where Rithmatics, a powerful magic of chalk-drawn lines and animated figures, is both revered and feared, young Joel dreams of becoming a Rithmatist. Unfortunately, he lacks the innate gift. Despite this, his sharp mind leads him to obsessively study the intricate geometric theories behind the magic, earning him an unusual apprenticeship with Professor Fitch. Joel can't infuse his own power into the chalk, but his understanding of Rithmatic principles is unparalleled. His theoretical brilliance is put to an extraordinary test when the most talented Rithmatist students at the Academy begin to mysteriously vanish, and gruesome deaths hint at a dark, encroaching threat. Deemed safe from the kidnapper due to his lack of magical ability, Joel nevertheless feels compelled to investigate. Partnering with the gifted Rithmatist apprentice Melody, he delves into the perilous mystery, realizing that his unique, non-magical insights might be the only hope to uncover the truth before more students disappear, and before the killer turns their attention to him and his newfound ally.
