Synopsis

Five years after the devastating events of the Dark War, Emma Carstairs, a fierce Shadowhunter warrior, is relentlessly driven by the unsolved murder of her parents. Living with the large, tumultuous Blackthorn family at the Los Angeles Institute, Emma finds solace and partnership in her parabatai, Julian Blackthorn. Their sacred bond as warrior partners is deepening into something forbidden and dangerous: love. When a series of faerie murders plague Los Angeles, bearing an unsettling resemblance to her parents' unsolved case, Emma and Julian are drawn into a perilous investigation. They must navigate the treacherous politics of the Faerie Courts and the strict, ancient laws of the Clave, all while confronting their burgeoning, illicit feelings. As they uncover a conspiracy threatening both the Shadowhunter and Downworlder communities, Emma and Julian are forced to question everything they thought they knew about justice, loyalty, and the devastating cost of love. This edition also includes the short story "A Long Conversation."
