Synopsis

When sixteen-year-old Tessa Gray journeys across the ocean to Victorian London, seeking her missing brother, she quickly discovers that the gaslit streets hide a terrifying secret world. Kidnapped by the mysterious Pandemonium Club, Tessa learns she is a Downworlder with a rare and dangerous ability: the power to transform into any person she touches. The shadowy leader of the Club, known only as the Magister, will stop at nothing to exploit her unique gift. Friendless and hunted, Tessa finds refuge with the Shadowhunters of the London Institute, a secret society of demon-slaying warriors. They promise to help find her brother, but only if she uses her burgeoning powers to aid their fight against the encroaching darkness. Caught in a perilous quest, Tessa soon finds herself inextricably drawn to two enigmatic best friends: the charming, melancholic Jem, and the brooding, witty Will. As a sinister plot unfolds, threatening the very existence of the Shadowhunters, Tessa must navigate a world of magic, danger, and a blossoming love triangle, forcing her to confront impossible choices between her family, her new allies, and her own heart.
