Synopsis

“I Am Pilgrim” plunges readers into a high-stakes, globe-trotting thriller centered on a former top-secret US intelligence operative known only as Pilgrim. Once the handler of a sensitive Saudi asset, Pilgrim thought he had disappeared from the shadow world, living under a new identity. However, a meticulously planned murder in a run-down New York hotel, where a victim's identity is dissolved by acid, pulls him back into the fray. This seemingly isolated crime is just one thread in a terrifying tapestry of global terror, linking a brutally public execution in Saudi Arabia, the horrific discovery of a mutilated biotech expert in Syria, and charred remains in Afghanistan. Pilgrim soon discovers these events are orchestrated by a ruthless, brilliant jihadist known as the “Saracen,” who has devised a flawless plot to unleash a biological weapon of unprecedented devastation upon the Western world. With time running out, Pilgrim must navigate a labyrinth of international espionage, decipher cryptic clues, and confront his own past to stop the Saracen before humanity faces an appalling, irreversible catastrophe. This pulse-pounding narrative is a relentless race against time, where the fate of millions rests on one man's ability to outwit an implacable enemy.

Critical Reception

"Hailed as a masterclass in modern espionage fiction, 'I Am Pilgrim' solidified Terry Hayes's reputation as a formidable new voice in the thriller genre, earning comparisons to titans like John le Carré and Robert Ludlum."
