Synopsis

In the desolate off-season of a crumbling seaside hotel, seventeen-year-old Mari observes the world with a cool, precocious gaze. Her quiet life working the front desk for her controlling mother takes an unexpected turn when an older, enigmatic man is ejected from a room with a prostitute. Drawn by an inexplicable allure to his voice, Mari finds herself entangled in a "single long seduction." This man, a reclusive translator living on a nearby island, carries the dark reputation of possibly having murdered his wife. As Mari begins to visit him, she is initiated into a realm of both exquisite pain and intense pleasure, discovering a disturbing comfort in the boundaries he pushes. Far from being repelled, Mari finds herself more at home in this 'twisted' intimacy than even the translator. As her mother grows suspicious and attempts to intervene, Mari's perceptions of suitability and desire are irrevocably challenged, leading her down a path where the lines between love, control, and transgression blur into an untranslatable essence.
