Synopsis

In the 24th century, the enigmatic organization known as Dr. Zeus, or 'The Company,' employs a unique method to preserve art and extinct life forms: they recruit orphans from various historical periods, render them virtually immortal through advanced technology, and train them to serve their vast, profit-driven enterprise. Mendoza, a botanist and one such immortal operative, is dispatched to Elizabethan England. Her mission is to collect genetic samples from the garden of Sir Walter Iden, a task she diligently undertakes. However, her carefully constructed, timeless existence is irrevocably altered when she encounters Nicholas Harpole, a man of that bygone era. Their burgeoning love transcends the boundaries of time and Company protocols, setting in motion a chain of events and profound changes that will reverberate through centuries and become the foundational narrative for the entire 'Company' series. Mendoza's choice between her duty and her heart forms the core of this compelling historical science fiction tale.
