Synopsis

Craig Gilner, a driven New York City teenager, believes admission to a prestigious high school is his golden ticket to a perfect future. However, once immersed in the hyper-competitive environment, he quickly realizes he's merely average amongst his brilliant peers. The immense pressure and fear of failure lead to a downward spiral, culminating in severe depression, an inability to eat or sleep, and ultimately, a suicide attempt. This lands him in a psychiatric ward, an unexpected refuge from his crushing anxieties. Surrounded by a motley crew of unique patients—including a sharp-witted transsexual, a self-mutilating girl, and an eccentric 'President'—Craig finds himself in an environment where the usual societal pressures are stripped away. Through shared experiences and genuine connection, he begins to confront the root causes of his mental health struggles, slowly rediscovering himself and finding humor and hope in the most unexpected places. It's a poignant yet often funny exploration of adolescent mental health and the surprising paths to healing.
