Synopsis

In Ian Rankin's 'Resurrection Men,' the gritty thirteenth installment of the Inspector Rebus series, the eponymous detective finds himself on the brink. Following an explosive confrontation with a colleague during a murder inquiry, Rebus is dispatched to the Scottish Police College for a forced 'retraining' – effectively, his last chance. There, he's tasked with reviewing old, unsolved cases, only to uncover a nest of secrets among his new team, fiercely guarded by those who will stop at nothing to protect them. Concurrently, Rebus is drawn into a precarious role as an intermediary for the notorious gangster 'Big Ger' Cafferty. Meanwhile, newly promoted DS Siobhan Clarke independently investigates the original murder of an Edinburgh art dealer, a case that brings her alarmingly close to Cafferty himself. This novel delves deep into the moral complexities and personal demons plaguing Edinburgh's finest, as Rebus navigates a landscape where justice is often a blurred line.

Critical Reception

"Praised as a pinnacle of British crime writing, 'Resurrection Men' exemplifies Ian Rankin's mastery of the genre and solidifies his reputation as a number one bestselling author."
