Synopsis

Arthur Less, the endearingly awkward protagonist from Andrew Sean Greer's Pulitzer-winning novel, returns in this profound and joyous road trip across America. While life initially seems to be looking up for Less, with a steady relationship and moderate literary success, a sudden financial crisis and the death of an old lover propel him into another escape. Accepting a series of obscure literary gigs, Less embarks on a zigzagging journey across the United States in his rusty camper van, Rosina, accompanied by his trusty black pug, Dolly. From the 'Mild Mild West' to the Southern states and his mid-Atlantic birthplace, Less attempts to shed his identity, donning a handlebar mustache and a 'Unitedstatesian' costume. Despite his efforts, he is continually mistaken for others, or worse, a 'bad gay.' This comedic yet deeply introspective adventure forces Less to confront long-standing issues, from his estranged father and strained relationship with Freddy to his own privilege and personal demons, ultimately delivering a moving exploration of love, identity, and the stories that shape us.

Critical Reception

"Praised for its irrepressible wit and profound emotional depth, 'Less Is Lost' continues the legacy of its Pulitzer Prize-winning predecessor, solidifying Andrew Sean Greer's status as a master of contemporary literary fiction."
