Synopsis

As the warmth of Midsummer approaches, Inspector Kurt Wallander yearns for a tranquil holiday, hoping his estranged daughter and aging father can manage without him. However, his aspirations for peace are shattered when a teenage girl immolates herself before his very eyes, an act that leaves him profoundly disturbed. This horrific event is swiftly followed by the brutal murder of a former minister of justice, whose body is discovered meticulously scalped. What initially appears to be an isolated incident soon escalates into a chilling series of apparently motiveless killings, each victim subjected to the same grotesque mutilation. Wallander finds himself plunged into a desperate and relentless investigation, struggling to comprehend the motive behind these atrocities and to identify the tormented girl whose death ignited this nightmare. As the body count rises and the killer's macabre signature becomes clear, Wallander's pursuit forces him to confront not only the darkest corners of human depravity but also places himself and those he holds dearest in imminent and mortal danger. This gripping narrative delves deep into the psyche of a troubled detective grappling with a seemingly incomprehensible evil.
