Synopsis

On an unnamed island, a sinister phenomenon unfolds: objects, and the very concept of them, mysteriously vanish. What begins with hats and ribbons escalates to birds, roses, and even body parts, eradicated from collective memory as if they never existed. The few inhabitants who retain the ability to recall these disappeared items live in perpetual fear of the draconian Memory Police, a shadowy organization dedicated to ensuring total oblivion. Our protagonist, a young novelist whose mother was a sculptor of lost objects, finds herself increasingly isolated as the world around her dwindles. When she discovers that her editor, an old friend of her late mother, possesses a dangerous and complete memory of everything that has disappeared, she devises a desperate plan to hide him beneath her floorboards. As the island continues to empty, they cling to her writing – a tangible record of a world being erased – as their last bastion against the pervasive amnesia, striving to preserve the essence of what has been lost before it's too late. This haunting narrative explores the fragility of memory, the trauma of loss, and the quiet acts of resistance in the face of an existential threat.
