Synopsis

In 'The Absent One,' the second riveting installment of Jussi Adler-Olsen's Department Q series, Copenhagen's enigmatic Detective Carl Mørck finds himself grappling with a two-decade-old cold case that refuses to stay buried. The brutal double murder of a privileged brother and sister from an elite boarding school class initially appeared solved, with one of the suspects having confessed and served time. However, Mørck, with his keen eye for discrepancies and the unsettling intuition of his assistant Assad, quickly discerns that the truth is far more complex and sinister than official records suggest. The key to unlocking the past lies with Kimmie, a troubled and homeless woman who holds dangerous secrets connecting her to the original victims and a powerful, untouchable circle of friends. As Mørck races against time to track Kimmie down, he discovers that these influential figures are equally desperate to silence her, plunging him into a dark world of privilege, betrayal, and violence. This gripping psychological thriller delves into the corrosive effects of unchecked power and the relentless pursuit of justice.
