The Girl with All the Gifts

In a post-apocalyptic world overrun by a fungal infection that turns humans into flesh-eating 'hungries,' a glimmer of hope resides in a secluded military base in rural Britain. Here, a group of extraordinary children, including the bright and curious Melanie, are subjected to scientific study. These children are 'second-generation hungries' – they crave human flesh but retain their intellect and emotions, especially when exposed to it. Every day, Melanie and her peers are escorted to class under armed guard, treated with a mixture of fear and clinical detachment by the soldiers and scientists, including the stern Sergeant Parks and the compassionate Dr. Caldwell. When the base is compromised, Melanie, Dr. Caldwell, Sergeant Parks, and a few others are forced to embark on a perilous journey across a desolate landscape teeming with dangers.
