Synopsis

Private detective Charlie Parker is plunged into a terrifying abyss when he undertakes the grim case of Marianne Larousse, the daughter of a powerful South Carolina millionaire, whose brutal rape and murder has condemned an innocent young Black man to death row. This is no ordinary investigation; it's a harrowing descent into an ancient evil deeply rooted in the region's dark past. As Parker unearths layers of complicity and deceit, he finds himself haunted by spectral visions, pursued by ominous threats, and increasingly entangled in a nightmare that blurs the lines between the living and the dead. The case rapidly escalates into a deeply personal confrontation, threatening Parker's loved ones and his very soul. Meanwhile, an old, vengeful adversary watches from a northern prison cell, orchestrating events and manipulating the very figures Parker hunts, including the elusive killer Cyrus Nairn. "The White Road" sees Parker navigating treacherous southern swamps and northern forests, where the paths of humanity and the supernatural converge in a chilling reckoning against forces far older and more sinister than he could have imagined.

Critical Reception

"The White Road stands as a chilling testament to John Connolly's mastery of the dark crime genre, solidifying his place among the foremost architects of supernatural thrillers."
