Synopsis

The chilling narrative of "The Pale Horse" unravels following the bizarre death of a young heiress, Thomasina Tucker. Her demise, initially dismissed as a street brawl fatality, takes on sinister connotations when Father Gorman, a priest, is brutally murdered days later. Before his death, the priest manages to hide a cryptic list of names in his shoe, one of which belongs to Thomasina. This fateful list falls into the hands of Mark Easterbrook, a historian, who, spurred by curiosity and a growing sense of dread, begins to investigate. His quest leads him to a secluded country inn called The Pale Horse, home to three peculiar women rumored to practice dark arts. As Mark delves deeper, he uncovers a macabre business: a service purportedly offering to eliminate unwanted individuals through 'witchcraft.' Is it genuine supernatural power, or a cunningly disguised method of murder? With Scotland Yard skeptical, Mark must navigate a world where science and superstition dangerously intertwine, confronting a killer who uses belief itself as a weapon, before he or someone he cares about becomes the next name on the list.
