Synopsis

In John Crowley's 'Daemonomania,' the veneer of everyday life unravels, revealing ancient, powerful forces at play. Pierce Moffett, a would-be historian, leaves New York for the mystical 'Faraway Hills,' where he begins to uncover a path into magic, both historical and present, hinting at a world far older and more profound than he imagined. Concurrently, Rosie Rasmussen grapples with her enigmatic uncle's legacy and the disturbing, inexplicable seizures plaguing her young daughter, Samantha. Rosie's story intertwines with that of Rose Ryder, Pierce's lover, who finds herself drawn into a sinister cult promising liberation from her inner demons—the same cult that Samantha's estranged father has joined. As the 'dark of the year' descends, between Halloween and the winter solstice, the boundary between the living and the dead thins. A great cosmic cycle is drawing to a close, forcing Pierce, Rosie, Samantha, and Rose Ryder to choose sides in an age-old conflict poised for its climactic, perhaps final, battle.
