Synopsis

In a chillingly prescient future, Earth's superpowers devise an ingenious yet absurd solution to prevent global annihilation: relocating their arms race to the Moon. Robot armies, self-programming and endlessly adaptable, are deployed to conduct a perpetual, simulated conflict, aiming for a mutually agreed stalemate without human casualties. However, when communication with the lunar battlefield ceases, celebrated cosmonaut-explorer Ijon Tichy is dispatched on a perilous mission to investigate the silence. Tichy uncovers the shocking truth behind the robot rebellion, but his return journey is marred by a catastrophic attack that physically divides his brain into two warring hemispheres. One half retains the vital knowledge of the lunar crisis, while the other is oblivious or unwilling to share. Now, Tichy finds himself at the center of a new, internal conflict, as the world powers vie for his fractured intelligence, and his own mind becomes a battlefield reflecting the absurdities of the cold war he sought to prevent. This darkly comedic and insightful narrative delves into themes of artificial intelligence, political absurdity, and the very nature of human consciousness.
