Synopsis

Former child actor Cilla McGowan, seeking an escape from the glare of Hollywood and a fresh start, retreats to her late movie-star grandmother Janet's neglected farmhouse in rural Virginia. Janet died mysteriously at age 39, her death officially ruled a suicide, but Cilla has always harbored doubts. As Cilla begins the daunting task of restoring the dilapidated house, she uncovers forgotten diaries and old letters that paint a vivid, often scandalous, picture of her grandmother's life and hint at a truth far darker than suicide. Drawn into Janet's past, Cilla finds an unlikely ally and romantic interest in her reclusive, yet charming, graphic novelist neighbor, Ford Sawyer. Together, they delve into the secrets of Janet's life, peeling back layers of glamour and deception to uncover what truly happened that fateful night. Their investigation intertwines with Cilla's own journey of self-discovery and healing, confronting not only a potential murderer but also the complex legacy of family and fame.
