Synopsis

Jess Moulson is sentenced to Fellside, a maximum-security prison perched on the desolate Yorkshire moors, for a crime she can barely remember committing. Haunted by a devastating fire and the death of a young boy, her memory is fragmented, leaving her trapped in a haze of guilt and uncertainty. Fellside is a place of stark realities and unforgiving routines, where life is a constant struggle for survival amongst its hardened inmates. Yet, amidst the clanging gates and echoing corridors, Jess begins to hear a voice – a child's voice – calling to her, whispering messages that seem both impossible and intimately connected to her past. As the eerie whispers intensify, Jess must grapple with her sanity, the truth of her crime, and the possibility that something supernatural lurks within the prison walls. M. R. Carey masterfully blends psychological suspense with supernatural elements, crafting a chilling and emotionally charged narrative where the line between memory, madness, and the paranormal blurs, forcing Jess to confront not only her incarceration but also the very nature of her own soul.

Critical Reception

"Praised for its intense atmosphere, originality, and emotional depth, Fellside solidified M. R. Carey's reputation as a master of haunting and thought-provoking thrillers."
