In the chilling depths of Boston's Crispin Museum, a macabre discovery shatters the peace: a perfectly preserved mummy, initially believed to be an ancient Egyptian artifact. Medical examiner Maura Isles, however, quickly unearths a horrifying truth—the mummy, dubbed 'Madam X,' is not an age-old relic but a modern-day murder victim, meticulously prepared and hidden for years. As Maura delves deeper, she finds chilling evidence of human sacrifice, suggesting a ritualistic killer. The mystery escalates when Boston homicide detective Jane Rizzoli connects this case to the recent gruesome discovery of two other women, also found in ritualistic settings. Together, Maura and Jane realize they are hunting a meticulous and deranged individual, dubbed the 'Archaeology Killer,' who treats human lives as artifacts for a monstrous collection. They must race against time to decipher the killer's twisted endgame, confronting a dark history intertwined with modern evil, before another victim becomes a macabre keepsake.
