Synopsis

Five-year-old Jack has spent his entire life in 'Room,' an 11x11 foot shed that is his whole universe. For Jack, Room is home, a place of wonder and routine, shared with his beloved Ma. He believes that everything he sees on their old television is make-believe, and that the only 'real' things are inside Room. Ma, however, knows the harrowing truth: they are captives, held prisoner for years. When Jack turns five, Ma decides it's time to hatch a desperate and dangerous plan to escape their confines and introduce Jack to the 'outside' world he never knew existed. Told entirely from Jack's innocent yet perceptive point of view, the novel brilliantly navigates the psychological complexities of confinement, the fierce bond between a mother and child, and the overwhelming challenge of adjusting to freedom after years of isolation. It's a poignant exploration of resilience, imagination, and the true meaning of home.

Critical Reception
