Wielding a Red Sword

In the fourth installment of Piers Anthony's Incarnations of Immortality series, we follow the tumultuous journey of Mym, a dutiful son to a powerful Rajah whose interference in his love life drives him to a drastic choice. Rather than enter a loveless marriage, Mym takes up the Red Sword, assuming the mantle of the Incarnation of War. Initially, he aims to mitigate the suffering caused by humanity's incessant conflicts, hoping to guide them towards more just outcomes. However, he soon discovers that his every action is subtly manipulated by Satan, the Incarnation of Evil, who thrives on discord. A seeming mischance catapults Mym into Hell, where he orchestrates a grand rebellion among the Damned, forcing Satan to a temporary capitulation. Upon his return to Earth, Mym finds that Satan has been far from idle, escalating global tensions to unprecedented levels, pushing the world to the brink of utter devastation. With the fabric of reality unraveling and Satan seemingly poised for ultimate victory, Mym realizes there is only one desperate, final gambit left to play.
