Lost in a Good Book

Literary detective Thursday Next's life takes another fantastical turn when her beloved husband, Landen Parke-Laine, is unceremoniously erased from history by the powerful and corrupt Goliath Corporation. Determined to restore him, Thursday reluctantly joins Jurisfiction, the covert police force operating within the realm of books, as a Prose Resource Operative. Under the tutelage of the infamous Miss Havisham from 'Great Expectations,' Thursday hones her skills in book-jumping, navigating the intricate and often dangerous landscapes of classic literature. Her mission to retrieve Landen intertwines with a series of bizarre and increasingly urgent tasks: pursuing an enemy hidden in Poe's 'The Raven,' embarking on unexpected journeys through the works of Kafka, Austen, and even Beatrix Potter, and evading a cascade of lethal coincidences. Simultaneously, Thursday finds herself authenticating a lost play by Shakespeare and racing against time to prevent an ominous pink sludge from engulfing all reality. Amidst this chaos, she must outwit Goliath, master her newfound abilities, and fight desperately to bring Landen back into existence.
