Synopsis

Lew Archer, the world-weary private investigator, is drawn into a complex web of family secrets and past crimes when he's hired by Larry and Irene Chalmers. Their initial concern is that their troubled son, Nick, might be involved in a recent burglary at their own home. However, the case quickly escalates when a fellow investigator, who had been working with Nick, turns up dead. Archer soon realizes that the stolen loot is merely a surface detail, uncovering deeper, more sinister connections. His investigation leads him to a decades-old kidnapping and a mysterious handgun that seems to resurface at every new, terrible murder. As Archer delves into the Chalmers' fractured past, he exposes the profound damage and betrayals hidden beneath a veneer of normalcy. 'The Goodbye Look' is a masterful exploration of how love, lies, and greed can intertwine, revealing the devastating impact families can inflict upon one another across generations.
