Synopsis

In the atmospheric, haunting town of Missing Mile, Louisiana, two damaged souls collide. Zach Bosch, a computer hacker with a striking, almost ethereal appearance reminiscent of Edward Scissorhands, is constantly on the run from his own shadowed past and an indefinable sense of displacement. Trevor McGee, a comics artist, carries the crushing weight of a horrific childhood trauma: the brutal murder of his mother and brother by his father two decades prior, an event that imbues his art and his life with a profound darkness. Drawn together by their shared brokenness and a palpable, often violent, attraction, Zach and Trevor find solace and danger in each other’s arms. As their unconventional love story unfolds, they discover that Missing Mile itself holds secrets, and the supernatural echoes of Trevor's family tragedy refuse to remain buried. Poppy Z. Brite masterfully weaves a tale of intense passion, psychological horror, and gothic dread, where love becomes both a refuge and a catalyst for confronting deeply buried terrors.

Critical Reception

"Drawing Blood is celebrated as a seminal work in queer gothic horror, praised for its visceral prose and unflinching exploration of trauma, love, and the supernatural."
