Synopsis

In a not-so-distant future, the American continent lies abandoned, a vast desert wasteland consumed by ecological disaster and left to ruin for centuries. Now, a new European expedition, aboard the airship "Columbus," embarks on a perilous journey across the Atlantic to rediscover the lost land. What they find is far from the idealized vision of America. Amidst the desolate urban ruins and strange, regressed tribes, they encounter a charismatic, messianic figure who proclaims himself the new President of America. This self-styled leader, with his motley crew of followers and bizarre rituals, begins to rebuild a twisted, surreal version of the American dream. J.G. Ballard's "Hello America" is a visionary and unsettling exploration of cultural decay, the allure of celebrity, and the powerful, often destructive, myths that shape a nation, presenting a haunting mirror to our own anxieties about environmental collapse and societal breakdown. It's a journey into the heart of a bizarre, post-civilization landscape where the past is a forgotten dream and the future is an alien, distorted reflection.

Critical Reception

""Hello America" stands as a compelling, albeit often overlooked, entry in J.G. Ballard's distinct canon of speculative fiction, lauded for its visionary post-apocalyptic landscape and biting critique of American cultural mythology."
