Synopsis

In a desperate attempt to salvage his public image and win the 'war on drugs,' the U.S. President secretly authorizes 'Operation Showboat,' a covert, off-the-books military campaign targeting Colombian drug cartels. Led by the ruthless John Clark, this strike force infiltrates Colombia, achieving initial successes but soon incurring brutal retaliation from the drug lords, resulting in civilian casualties. As public opinion turns, the President, panicked, orders the operation terminated and all traces erased, leaving American soldiers stranded and expendable. Meanwhile, newly appointed CIA Deputy Director of Intelligence Jack Ryan discovers he's been deliberately kept in the dark about the entire clandestine mission. Enraged by the betrayal and the abandonment of his nation's finest, Ryan embarks on a dangerous, unauthorized quest to expose the truth and rescue the covert team, navigating a labyrinth of political deception, military intrigue, and moral compromise where nothing is as it seems, and the lines between patriotism and conspiracy blur.

Critical Reception

"As a cornerstone of the techno-thriller genre, 'Clear and Present Danger' solidified Tom Clancy's reputation for intricate geopolitical plots and military realism, resonating deeply with audiences for its exploration of government overreach and moral ambiguity."
