Synopsis

In the throes of a brutal interstellar war between humanity and the reptilian Drac, fighter pilot Willis Davidge (human) and Jeriba Shigan (Drac) crash-land on a desolate, hostile planet. Their initial instincts are driven by species-deep hatred and the imperative to eliminate the enemy. However, their forced isolation against the planet's lethal environment strips away their prejudices, compelling them into an uneasy alliance that slowly blossoms into a profound friendship. As they learn each other's languages, cultures, and philosophies, Davidge and Jeriba discover common ground and shared existential struggles. Their bond deepens further when Jeriba becomes pregnant, as Dracs reproduce asexually. Davidge pledges to protect the unborn, and following Jeriba’s death in childbirth, he becomes the guardian of the young Drac, Zammis. This unlikely family struggles to survive, leading to Davidge's arduous journey to reunite Zammis with his people, ultimately forcing both species to confront their deeply ingrained hatreds through the lens of a unique, shared future. The story is a powerful testament to empathy, understanding, and the potential for peace amidst conflict.
