Biography

Stieg Larsson (1954–2004) was a celebrated Swedish journalist, author, and anti-racist activist, best known for his posthumously published "Millennium series" of crime novels. Born Karl Stig-Erland Larsson, he adopted the shortened name 'Stieg' to avoid confusion with a colleague. Throughout his life, Larsson was a dedicated advocate against right-wing extremism and racism. He served as editor-in-chief of the anti-racist magazine Expo and was a leading expert on far-right political movements in Sweden, a role that often put him at personal risk due to his investigative journalism. Larsson began writing his crime novels for personal enjoyment, outside his demanding professional life. He submitted the first three manuscripts of the Millennium series to a publisher shortly before his sudden death from a heart attack at the age of 50. The series, featuring journalist Mikael Blomkvist and hacker Lisbeth Salander, became an international phenomenon, selling millions of copies and inspiring film adaptations.
