John Flanagan is an Australian fantasy author, best known for his highly popular 'Ranger's Apprentice' series. Born in Sydney in 1944, he initially pursued a successful career in advertising, where he wrote jingles and commercials. Later, he moved into television, co-creating the popular sitcom 'Hey Dad..!' His foray into novel writing began when he started crafting short stories to encourage his then twelve-year-old son, Michael, to read. These stories evolved into 'The Ruins of Gorlan,' the first book in the 'Ranger's Apprentice' series, published in 2004. Flanagan's writing is characterized by its fast-paced action, strong character development, and intricate plots, which often blend elements of medieval history with fantasy.
