Biography

Maxwell Maltz was an American cosmetic surgeon, author, and speaker, best known for developing "Psycho-Cybernetics," a self-help system for improving self-image and achieving success. Born in 1899, Maltz initially practiced reconstructive plastic surgery, where he observed that patients whose physical appearance was corrected often retained their poor self-image. This led him to believe that a person's self-perception was crucial to their happiness and success, regardless of external changes. He theorized that the human mind operates much like a goal-seeking mechanism. His work combined psychology, self-help, and practical exercises, advocating for mental imagery and positive self-talk to reprogram one's self-image. His seminal book, "Psycho-Cybernetics," published in 1960, became a long-standing bestseller and influenced countless individuals and subsequent self-help gurus. He spent the latter part of his career lecturing and writing on his theories until his death in 1975.
