Garth Greenwell (born 1978) is an American author acclaimed for his intimate and psychologically incisive literary fiction. Born in Louisville, Kentucky, he earned degrees from the Iowa Writers' Workshop and Washington University in St. Louis. Before his literary career, Greenwell taught high school English and later served as a university instructor, notably in Bulgaria. His debut novel, *What Belongs to You* (2016), garnered widespread critical praise for its lyrical prose and unflinching exploration of a gay American teacher's relationship with a young hustler in Sofia. This work was a finalist for the National Book Award.
