Biography
Adyashanti, born Stephen Gray in 1962, is an influential American spiritual teacher and author recognized for his direct, non-dual approach to spiritual awakening. His journey began at age 19 with intensive meditation practice, leading to 14 years of Zen Buddhist study under Arvis Joen Justi, a student of Shunryu Suzuki. In 1996, following profound spiritual experiences, he was asked by his teacher to share his insights, marking the beginning of his public teaching career. He founded Open Gate Sangha, a non-profit dedicated to transmitting his teachings globally. Adyashanti's work encourages individuals to move beyond conceptual understanding to a direct, experiential realization of truth, emphasizing radical inquiry into the nature of self and reality.
